Invitation to the U.S. Mid-Atlantic Regional Agroecology Encounter
Dear Friend and Colleague,
We would like to invite you to participate in the 1st Mid-Atlantic Regional Agroecology Encounter scheduled July 29th - 31st, 2016, on the grounds of Black Dirt Farm, in Preston on the Eastern Shore of Maryland; home of the powerful ancestral lands of Araminata Ross (Harriet Tubman). You have been identified to be a critical movement weaver in the region by the Political Coordination Committee of the Encounter. We would like to invite you to participate in this Training of Trainers for People’s Agroecology for the U.S context. We are accompanied in this process by the Black Dirt Farm Collective, CATA, Ecohermanas, Soil Generation, Soilful City, VietLEAD, and other regional farmers, farmworkers, women, youth, elders, advocates, artists, healers, community members and organizations from the Mid-Atlantic.
The Agroecology Encounter will include elements:
for debate on the struggle of Black and Brown peoples as it relates to the industrial agriculture model in the US (i.e. Afroecology, History of the Eastern Shore/Underground Railroad, Migration, Colonialism in the present day, Seed Sovereignty, Feminism etc)
technical capacity-building using a Farmer-to-Farmer methodology (Bio-pest management, moon-phases planting and harvesting, others)
space for healing and self transformation for participants that are on the frontline of our struggle. (painting, healing and reflective cultural community sessions)
Child Care, Youth and Teen activities
This is a family-friendly, camping style event, please mention the ages of children when registering. We hope to expand this grassroots effort to other regions, growing a national movement supported and inspired by the work of our many movement allies nationally and internationally.
